What’s The Difference Between CVC And PICC?

Publish Time: 2023-05-17     Origin: Site

What Are CVC Used For?

CVC is performed by inserting a catheter into the superior and inferior vena cava via internal jugular, subclavian, and femoral venous puncture and retaining it to provide convenient venous access.

Scope Of Application:

(1) CVC can rapidly open large venous access and can be used to resuscitate or measure central venous pressure.

(2) It can infuse stimulating chemotherapeutic drugs or intravenous high-energy nutrition.

The Advantages Of CVC:

Lower cost, faster flow rate, less prone to ectopic.

*Providing a deep vein channel for infusion, pressure measurement, and treatment;

*Rapid and large-scale infusion, and ensure the blood pressure balance in the event of accidental trauma;

*Minimize the damage to the establishment of deep vein access, and Minimize the medical risk of the operation;

*Indwelling for about 3-4 weeks, greatly facilitates doctors' treatment, and reduces the burden of nurses and the pain of patients;

*Widely used in Anesthesiology, ICU, Oncology, Emergency, General Surgery, Nerve, and Hematology.

What Are PICC Used For?

PICC is a central venous catheter placed via peripheral venous puncture, with the tip of the catheter located in the lower 1/3 of the superior vena cava, or at the junction of the superior vena cava and the right atrium.

Scope Of Application:

(1) Patients who need long-term intravenous infusion.

(2) Patients requiring irritant (chemotherapeutic drugs) or hyperosmolar (parenteral nutrition) infusions, etc.

(3) Patients who need repeated transfusion of blood products or blood collection.

(4) Patients with a tendency to lack peripheral venous access or in whom subclavian and internal jugular venous placement is contraindicated.

The Advantages Of PICC:

Easy to operate, less damage, high success rate, low complication rate, long retention time, can complete medium and long-term treatment needs, does not affect the patient's daily life.

*Foldable, not easy to seriously bend and break, and can be left in the body for a long time;

*Avoid repeated venipuncture, reduce the damage caused by drug leakage to blood vessels and surrounding tissues;

*Obese or elderly people can solve the problem of difficult punctures by using this puncture method;

*Not easy to come out after being placed and fixed, which greatly facilitates the patient's activities;

*Widely used in Oncology, Neonatology, ICU, Gastroenterology, Brain Surgery, Hematology, Infectious Diseases, Cardiology, Thoracic Surgery, and Gynecology/Radiotherapy.
